Bubomi Sana (skin deep) is a 13-part series centred around a young woman from a township in the Eastern Cape whose dream is to make it into the glamorous, wild, image-obsessed, sometimes cut-throat and always difficult world of modelling. We explore how Zandiswa arrives in Cape Town with high hopes and great dreams of becoming a super-model.
Zandiswa’s naiveté is revealed as her dreams clash with her cultural upbringing, and she is constantly faced with having to make choices and fit into a mould that is not always comfortable for her. A mould that is based on a mythically perceived perfection and is miles from the reality out on the street.
Zandiswa lives with her conservative aunt in Langa, a township on the Cape Flats. She is confronted with the realities of the fickle and temperamental modelling world almost immediately.
In each episode Zandiswa is confronted with yet another challenge of how to make her way in this wild world as she deals with boyfriend troubles, modelling woes, rejection and family ties.
