Kontreikos Kokke (Country Food Chefs) is a cooking competition series
with a difference. In this celebration of small-town South Africa, hosted by
Fokus presenter Lynette Francis-Puren, communities of ‘dorpies’ nominate
their favourite cooks to take part in the competition.
All the nominees are tasked with making the same dish, using their own
recipes and in their own homes. The locals taste all the dishes, and the
community decides which chef did it best.
It explores the cooking culture of small towns in South Africa.
Forget about the big kitchens with the best equipment. Forget about
trained chefs and professional judges. In this programme, the locals choose
the participating chefs and the winner, who will for example be crowned
the Kakamas Kerrievoetkoek Koning or the Pofadder Pannekoek Koning or
Springbok’s Smiley Koning.
