During the political changes in South Africa in the 1990\u2019s Frik, an ardent Blue Bulls supporter, takes a voluntary \u201cpackage\u201d and leaves his employment to start a take away in Nigel on the East Rand. He is married to a younger woman \u201cPoppie\u201d. Frik and \u201cPoppie\u2019s\u201d nephew, Worsie, who is mentally challenged due to a difficult birth process helps out in the shop and turns out to be a star both in terms of his cooking abilities and in his down to earth wisdom stemming from his honesty and kind heartedness. A sexy waitress \u2018Boeboe\u201d completes the Vetkoekpaleis team while Sheridan and Fogele are the local security and traffic cop guys that pop in regularly for a complimentary breakfast. Viewers are entertained with a healthy mixture of tears and laughter as the Vetkoekpaleis staff, \u201cPeople of the Palace\u201d, as Sheridan calls them, interact with all the other characters residing in Nigel.<\/b><\/p>\n
